ABSTRACT |
A study of the mineralogical composition
of Iloilo Ball Clay was conducted.
Various methods for mineral analysis
were applied namely X-ray Diffraction
Analysis, Thermo-Gravimetric
Differential Thermal Analysis, Infrared
Analysis, Scanning Electron Microscopy,
Optical Microscopy and Chemical
Analysis. The raw sample is composed of
the minerals-quartz, disordered
kaolinite, rnagnetite and
montmorillonite. Organic matter and
volcanic glass were also detected.
Fractions of 2> , 2-5µ , 5-8µ , 8-20µ
and residual portion were obtained. By
X-ray Diffraction Analysis, the 2 µ >
specimen is mainly disordered kaolinite.
Scanning Electron Micrographs showed
platy, hexagonal crystals. Heat
treatment at various temperatures of
this specimen
showed the subsequent thermal
transformation of a typical kaolin. The
remaining fractionated portions showed
the dominance of ∞-quartz.
