"THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
THE PRINCIPAL TYPES OF OROGENESIS IN THE VARISCICUM AND IN
THE ALPIDICUM OF CENTRAL EUROPE"
W. Schwan
Germany
INTRODUCTION
Central Europe is one of the best
explored regions of the earth. Inspite
of that, there are still different views
about the particular principal type of
orogenesis of both the Variscan
Mountains and the Alps. Some authors
consider the Variscicum as well as the
Alpidicum of Central Europe as being
autochthonous, others as being of
allochthonous character. So from time to
time there have been violent discussions
about this problem.
