Philex-Padcal Mine: Best Practices in Environmental Management and Community Development

Philex Mining Corporation is now on its 50th year of incorporation and 47th year of continuous operation of the Sto. Tomas II deposit known as Padcal Mine located in the Province of Benguet, Luzon Island, Philippines. The company has mined a total of 294 million tons of ore and produced 824 million kilograms of copper, 147 million grams of gold and 163 million grams silver. Over the years, this mining operation has also been creating jobs and livelihood opportunities, generating foreign currency and taxes for the country, building communities and protecting the environment.

 

This paper aims to present the best practices of Philex in environmental management and community development.
