ABSTRACT


Biostratlgraphic analysis of samples from Opol Formation reveals abundant and poor to moderately-preserved calcareous nannofossil assemblages. Based on the occurrence of several zonal markers (Discoaster quinqueramus, D. berggrenii, Reticulofenestra pseudoumbilica and Sphenolithus abies), nannofossil zones NN11- NN15 are recognized. The present study suggests a revision of the age of the Opol Formation to Late Miocene to Early Pliocene.
