Attracting Investors:
Strategic, Fiscal and Commercial Perspectives in Mining, and the Oil and Gas Industries

Lyrna Esmeralda

De Loitte

The Fraser Institute Survey of Mining Companies 2012-2013 lists the Philippines as one of the 10 least attractive jurisdiction for investment based on a Policy Potential Index.  Meanwhile, the Fraser Institute Global Petroleum Survey 2012 places the country at a jurisdictional ranking of 91 in a group of 147 based on an All-Inclusive Composite Index.

Lyrna will discuss how the Philippines can attract investors in the context of strategies, fiscal regimes and commercial considerations.

Mining industry discussion will focus on Indonesia, Australia and Mongolia.  For the oil and gas industry, the discussion will focus on neighboring Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand.

The key questions that will be asked are:  What directions are these countries pursuing?  How are they getting there?  What are the responses of investors?  What does the big picture tell us and what insights can we learn from these countries to attract investors in the Philippines?
